Radio in Our Life

Radio is a great invention. A.S. Popov, a well-known Russian researcher, constructed the first radio receiver in the end of the 19^th century. The first device was very simple. It could detect electromagnetic waves generated by lightning discharges at a distance of some meters only. Later Popov constructed a better device which transmitted audible signals at a distance. Popov’s experiments had shown that wireless communication was possible. Radio devices of the late 19^th century worked at a distance of several kilometers only. Popov’s device has been much perfected since then. It gave the birth to development of a number of new technologies in communication. In our days radio-engineering became a complicated field of knowledge and industry. Different kinds of devices are being designed and produced. They possess a wide range of possibilities. Radio is very important for people. People use radio as a way of communication. In all countries radio is the main means of warning of all kinds of disasters. It helps to organize evacuation of people if necessary. In some cases, when the telephone is not available we may use radio communication. Today radio communication is unlimited. It is used in different scientific and practical fields. For example, space flights would be impossible without radio. Radio is an important media. It is very popular all over the world. We may know news over the radio very quickly. Many people use the radio as a source of information in the fields of science, culture, art, and so on. Sometimes we listen to the radio for fun. It is very pleasant to listen to some beautiful music or a funny story when you are going by bus, by car or by train. Radio is quite important in my own life too. I listen to the radio every day. I prefer news programs and musical programs. Finally I study at the College of Communication and my future profession is also connected with radio.
