Objectives   The student deepens his/her skills of cultural issues. He/she is able to take multicultural issues into consideration also in his/her communication.   The student: deepens his/her knowledge of cultural issues and cultural differences and can take them into consideration in his/her studies and work   develops his/her multicultural skills and takes them into account in communication   adopts multidisciplinary and cross-border thinking   is able to use work and field related language in Swedish (Finnish students)   deepens his/her skills in Finnish. He/she is able to express basic ideas and manage in everyday situations in Finnish. He/she can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
Content · cultural differences and their relevance in one’s studies and work · multi-cultural working environment and customs and behaviour in different cultures · development of multicultural skills and taking them into account in communication · multidisciplinary and cross-border thinking in tourism   · work and field related terminology in Swedish (Finnish students) · written documents, presentations as well as meetings and negotiations in Swedish · communication in Finnish in everyday situations (non-Finnish students) · pronunciation · vocabulary, grammatical structures · understanding easy Finnish for everyday subjects · Finnish culture
Prerequisites -
Pedagogical arrangements Our pedagogical approach KOTA includes various pedagogical methods, such as tutorials, lectures, practical projects and learning assignments (e.g. a blog) and /or an exam. The specified timetable of the learning process of eight weeks is planned together with the working life and given at the beginning of the study unit. Tutoring and multi- stakeholder assessment of the learning process take place throughout the study unit according to the assessment criteria. This study unit part is implemented partly together with the IBS Programme or/and the Finnish Programme.   Depending on the cooperation partners the development task and/or problem may vary on yearly basis.
