DGs relay!

On Saturday April 16, DGs came out to support the American Cancer Society by participating in SLU's Relay for Life. Although it was a bit chilly, Delta Gamma came out in full force. The night started off at 6pm with a touching opening ceremony, where members of the American Cancer Society, SLU community, cancer survivors and their caretakers told their personal stories. Then, the laps began! DGs walked around and around the track, stopping to eat grilled cheese and tomato soup, hot chocolate, and lots of other treats. We were entertained throughout the night by bands and SLU music and dance groups, where 2 of DG's very own, Danielle Corley and Stephanie Plazibat, performed a lyrical dance with Phases of Motion. At about 11pm, the luminaria ceremony began, where fighters of cancer were honored with candle-lit bags surrounding the track, while the lights surround the track were turned out and participants walked around with their own candle.

As the night went on, the number of participants began to dwindle, but twins Debbie and Diane Reilly (pictured above with Cynthia Luna) kept their spirits up by playing and winning the Relay Olympics! By 6am, everyone was very tired, but energized with hope for finding a cure for cancer! Props to Cynthia Luna and Lauren Verrilli for their amazing job on the Relay Steering Committee! Also to Anne Marie Fleming and Mary Laethem for making super cute DG Relay shirts:) Overall it was a great night of raising money and awareness to create a world with more birthdays!
