Troubleshooting is solving problems or difficulties that arise inside a company. It is necessary when a company understands that it is not achieving its goals or objectives effectively. There are various troubles for a company to face with. It may be global problems such as economic crisis, instability of national currency, sharp decrease of demand etc. Or there may be some internal problems possible, for example unqualified personnel, outdated facilities, stagnation or bankruptcy.

In case of such problems the company has to review its strategy. The board can appoint an outsider, e.g. a new Managing Director. He may be able to analyse the company’s problems from an independent point of view and to suggest efficient solutions.

There are different sorts of analysis suitable here. A company can choose between SWOT analysis, market research or assessment or something else that helps to find solutions. A SWOT analysis is the most useful and effective for resolving internal difficulties. It includes 4 points: the company’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. After all of these points have been considered, it is easy to indicate the disadvantages and faults in the corporate strategy and then eliminate troubles.

Any company should also know some general advices on how to settle troubles. They are the following: don’t avoid the problem, deal with it; don’t see all problems as other people’s problems. Focus on yourself; don’t blame people, look for solution; look at a problem as an opportunity; learn something or achieve something; think ahead to prevent problems; don’t try to change the things you can’t change. Learn to accept them.

Here is the example of a successful troubleshooting. Ford Motors Corporation is well-known all over the world. Several years ago the company faced with diseconomies and gradual decrease of demand, especially in Europe and Russia. The company conducted a SWOT analysis and a complex market assessment. It allowed to find out the reason of trouble.

The design of Ford cars was slightly old-fashioned. A new Chief Designer was appointed who created the modern conception known as “New Edge”. This resulted in considerable growth of sales both in the USA and Europe.
