1) Present Simple вживається для вираження дії, яка є повторюваною, відбувається завжди, постійно, часто або інколи. Present Simple характеризує постійний стан:

She starts work at 9a.m.every day. He goes to the theatre once a week.

She is a doctor. He works in a bank. She reads a lot. He doesn’t live in Lviv.

She takes the bus to work every morning. Where do you work?

2) Present Simple вживається для вираження законів природи або дії, яка відбувається незалежно від волі людини:

The sun sets in the west. It rarely rains in the desert. It never snows in our city.

Water boils at 100⁰C. The earth moves round the sun.

3) Present Simple вживається для дії, підпорядкованої розкладу. (якщо мова йде про початок / закінчення фільмів / передач, відправлення транспорту, тощо)

The plane from Brussels arrives at 8:30. The train leaves at 4 o’clock.

The film starts at seven o’clock. The play finishes in half an hour.

4) Present Simple вживається для спортивних коментарів, опису в літературі, в рецензіях:

Peterson overtakes Williams and wins the race. Mike Dalton plays the part of Macbeth.

Then the prince gets on his horse and quickly rides away.

§ 3 Present Simple вживається з наступним обставинами:

always, usually, often, sometimes, seldom, rarely, never;

in the morning / evening / afternoon;

every day / week / morning / evening / month / year;

at night, at the weekend, on Mondays;

Word order with time expressions

In Present Simple sentences some time expressions (in the morning, every day, at the weekend, on Mondays) go at the beginning or end of sentences:

He drinks coffee in the morning. We have breakfast together on Mondays.

We go out on Saturdays at the weekend. I go swimming on Sundays.

However, time expressions (always, usually, often, sometimes, seldom, rarely, never) go before the main verb but after the verb be:

He always drinks coffee for breakfast. We usually have breakfast together.

We often go out on Saturdays. I sometimes go swimming on Sundays.

She seldom has cereal for dinner. They rarely help with the housework.

I never read books in the evening. Jim is always on time for work.

I am never late for my classes. They are always hungry!
