FAMILY

Билет № 1

Let’s talk about family. What is family for you?

I believe that everything has its beginning in the family. Family is very important for every person, because it gives you a sense of stability and tradition, a feeling of having support and understanding. Families give us strength and purpose. The things we need most deeply in our lives - love, communication, respect and good relationship - have their beginnings in the family. Families serve many functions. They provide conditions in which children can be born and brought up. Families help educate their members. Parents teach their children values as well as daily skills. They also teach them common practices and customs, such as respect for elders and celebrating holidays. But the most important job for a family is to give emotional support and security.

Do you have your own family traditions?

Certainly we have some family traditions. Apart from observing (following) national holidays we celebrate the birthdays of each member of the family, give presents to each other on the New Year day and on some other special occasions. It’s also our family tradition to spend summer holidays together either at the seaside or in the country, which I enjoy very much.

What can you advise people who want to have a close and happy family?

It’s common knowledge that family life can be difficult at times. First of all respect your parents by listening to what they say and doing your best to make them happy. When you are talking or discussing a problem with a family member, you need to fully listen and understand what they are saying. Do not interrupt them. When talking, make sure you use a normal tone of voice and talk to them in a loving and respectful way. Secondly try to compromise whenever and wherever it’s possible. Make sure that you so not offend family members. Always be polite. Use the words and phrases such as “please”, “thank you”, “I am sorry”, “I was wrong”, “I love you”, “You are welcome”. Treat your parents and other relatives the same way that you want to be treated. Thirdly when you are talking to your parents and other relatives avoid being rude and hard. Communicate with your relatives. Show interest in what life is like for them, take part in family activities to make relationships stronger.
