The work of NGOs

Eco groups

Eco groups (ecoteams) - is developed by an international non-profit non-governmental organization Global Action Plan International (GAP) a new form of community outreach, which allowed to engage in sustainable development activities more than 150 thousand people around the world. Today they are working successfully in 15 countries.

The work is based on the principle of gatherings of friends or clubs. This method is well suited for working with adults - neighbors, friends, colleagues meet about once a week and discuss important to their daily life topics related to the image and quality of life. Eco groups no less fruitful and interesting to pass for children (school, after-school). Eco groups analyze their daily habits and actions in terms of how they affect the environment and quality of life. In the course of work, the group makes an inventory of their household from an environmental point of view and decides what should be changed. Eco groups itself set goals and determine how effective its actions.

The experience of different countries shows that, on average Eco groups can achieve the following results:

· 40% reduction in the amount of garbage in the household;

· 20% reduction in the consumption of fresh water for household needs;

· 10-15% reduction in energy consumption;

· 15% reduction in fuel consumption.

Globally, it is encouraging figures!

Educational actions

Awareness campaigns are bright and exciting event and efficient way of working with different target audiences and age. Unfortunately, in our country, awareness campaigns are not yet a popular form of community outreach, as opposed to the traditional forms of education.

The work of NGOs

Fairtrade - a public organization that ensures that goods from third countries (mainly tea, coffee, chocolate and fruit) were produced without the use of slave labor, and farmers grow them in a distant African country, were duly rewarded for their work. In addition, it is a guarantee that the production of goods made no damage to the environment.

3) Why do we need a conscious consumption now?

The total human impact on the biosphere begins to exceed its capacity for self-regulation.

Consumption today is beyond the scope of the struggle for physical existence.

Shopping is a popular form of entertainment and goal in itself - when the goods are not acquired in connection with the practical necessity, but for some moral satisfaction, "shopping for shopping."

Living in the twenty-first century, it is hard to imagine that somewhere in Africa slave labor is still used, that the bananas that you buy for your child is collected by his peers 12 hours a day in the heat.

4) What are the basic principles of conscious consumer?
