III. Study the definitions of a few key words of the unit:

1. Assets – items of value belonging to a company or person, such as shares, pieces of land, building, machines, etc

2. Cost of living – the average amount of money people in a particular place spend on food, clothes or a place to live

3. Expenditure –the total amount of money that a government, organisation or person spends during a particular period of time

4. Interest – an amount paid by a borrower to a lender, e.g. paid to a bank by someone borrowing money for a loan or by a bank to a depositor.

5. Interest rate – the percentage rate used for calculating interest over a particular period of time, usually a year

6. Liabilities – money owned by a company; a debt

7. Overdraft – an arrangement between a bank and a customer allowing them to take out more money from one's current account than one had
in it

8. Overheads – a regular cost of running a business, e.g. rent, salaries, heat, light, etc

9. Stock –one of the shares into which ownership of a company is divided, or these shares considered together

10. To draw up – to prepare, to write out an agreement, a budget, a plan, etc
