Especially at holiday time, don’t leave cash or valuables in the house- take them with you or lodge them with the bank.

To my mind, one of the main problems which parents and teachers face when bringing children up is bullying. Even a lovely child who is always first in everything, confident and determined, can make other children fly in terror and caver screamingin corners.

A child can be even cruel, can be scratcher and if anyone upsets him or her or stands in his way his hand will flash out fast and score down the face of his playmate from forehead to chin.

Of course, bullying in the playground should be stopped but behaviour modification of a child is not an easy thing. All the usual ways such as telling off and punishment will probably give no results. But teachers have learned that only one thing works. No punishment should be given, but the bullies should be ignored and the vietims rewarded.

If a scratcher sees that the hurt one is given a sweet and mothered while his wishers are ignored, he will never do it again.

That is why parents who find older children bullying younger brother and sisters nught do well to replace shouting and punishment by rewarding and giving more attention to the injured one. It’s certainly less exhausting.
