GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND

THE STRUCTURE OF THE CUSTOMS TARIFF OF UKRAINE

Tariff regulation in Ukraine is based on the Customs Tariff of Ukraine. It is the main tariff regulation instrument.

The Customs Tariff of Ukraine is the schedule of customs duty rates applicable to goods imported to Ukraine.

Customs duty rates in the Customs Tariff of Ukraine are imposed and modified by Verhovna Rada. On July 1, 2001, the new Customs Tariff of Ukraine entered into force by The Law of Ukraine About Customs Tariff od Ukraine. It contains over 11000 tariff articles and looks like 6-column table.

Amounts of customs duties are due to be paid to the customs authorities in ukrainian currency – hrivna – at National Bank of Ukraine rate on the date of import customs declaration.

Customs Tariff of Ukraine is systemized with UKRAINIAN CLASSIFICATION OF GOODS OF FOREIGN ECONOMIC ACTIVITY (UKT ZED)

Ukrainian Classification of Goods of Foreign Economic Activity (UKT ZED) is based on the Harmonized System for commodity description and coding (HS) and the EU's Combined Nomenclature (CN).

In UKT ZED goods are systematized by sections, groups, positions, subpositions, categories, subcategories which are unified with HS and CN.

The structure of 10 symbol code identifying goods includes:

ü the code of group – first 2 symbols;

ü the code of position – first 4 symbols;

ü the code of subposition – first 6 symbols;

ü the code of category – first 8 symbols;

ü the code of subcategory – 10 symbols.
