Vocabulary

The biggest in the world, the second (largest), most (densely populated) place in the world, area, population, by far (the biggest), the biggest…of all; the same as, very similar to, slightly / completely different from; a place to stay / to eat / to enjoy, public services, sports facilities, urban problems (crime, pollution, overpopulation, traffic congestion), efficient and cheap transport, historical sights, nice walks and views, beautiful scenery, beautiful spots, industrial area, spectacular coastline, a famous tourist attraction, a very popular tourist destination.

City: crowded, exciting, cosmopolitan, noisy, old-fashioned, peaceful, ugly, touristy, famous for

The best / worst thing about the city.., it gives the whole city a different atmosphere

Vocabulary

Life experience, things that usually happen in one’s life (be born, leave school, go to / graduate from university, get a degree, leave home, start work, retire, move house

Famous people: have strong principles, be exceptionally talented, achieve a lot, brief biographical details, personal achievements, what kind of person s/he seems to be, why you particularly admire him / her

Questions for discussion:

1. Do you know many life stories of the people who made a successful career?

2. Have you got an idol? What is his or her life story?

3. Whose life story strikes you most?

4. Which facts do you find most interesting?

5. Do you believe you will be lucky to achieve a lot in your life?

6. What is the role of luck? What are ingredients of success?
