The history of the USA dates back only to the 15th century. The present territory of the USA was divided among some countries. In the 15th — 16th centuries some territory of the USA belonged to Great Britain (northern and western lands); southern parts (California, Florida, New Mexico, Texas) belonged to Spain, then — to Mexico; the central part, the territory was called Louisiana — to France; Alaska was possessed by Russia; some territories remained to be under Indians control.

There were three most dramatic experiences in the nation's history: the Civil War (1861-1865), the Great Depression of the 1930s and Vietnam War of the 1960s — 70s.
After its victories in World Wars I and II and the end of the Cold War in 1991, the USA remains the world's most powerful state. The economy is marked by steady growth, low unemployment and inflation, and great advances in technology..

And it was a little about USA. So I want to tell you about American cite New York.

1The city is situated in New York State and 3it’s the capital of New York State. 5 It was founded in 1613 by Dutch settlers 11Situated as it is at the mouth of the Hudson River, which is open to ocean-going ships the year round, New York quickly became one of the largest ports in the world. 11The total area of New York is 365 square miles or 900 square kilometres.2The population of this city is near 12 million people. 4Brooklyn alone has so many people that if it were a separate city, it would be the fourth largest city in the United States.. 7 In 1626 the Dutch Governor, Peter Minuit, concluded with them what American business experts call «the most profitable commercial deal in the U.S. history».8 With several bottles of gin and a handful of trinkets that cost twenty-four dollars, he bought a large island from the simple-hearted, trusting Indians. 9Later the Indians named the island Manhatta (present-day Manhattan, the main borough of New York, which in Iroquois means: «They cheated us». 12At the turn of the twentieth century millions of people driven by poverty emigrated to the United States from various countries, of Europe. 13 And now they entered the New World through New York, the «Gateway of America.»13 Among the inhabitants of New York one can meet people of almost all nationalities. 15If you are crossing New York City by subway, look at the newspapers other people around read. 16One person is reading a newspaper in Spanish, another in Chinese, others in Arabic, Russian, Italian and French and so on. 6There are five districts in the city: Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Richmond. 7Manhattan is the central and the oldest part of the city.8 It is the district of business and finance. 15A traveller who visits New York for the first time wonders at the modern architecture. 16The Statue of Liberty, which is on Liberty Island, was a present from France in 1876 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of American independence. 4The Statue of Liberty is the symbol of American democracy. 6Liberty carries the torch of freedom in her right hand.7 In her left hand she is holding a tablet with the inscription "July 4,1776" — American Independence Day..17 This statue and a few 18th and 19th century churches, hospitals, newspaper offices and other buildings are the only examples of "old" architecture in New York. 18New York, one of the USA leading manufacturing cities, is the home of great firms and banks.19 The city has very busy traffic.20 Its streets and highways are full of cars and busesNew York has many museums and art galleries which have collected works of art of many peoples and of all times.21 Many of them are on constant display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of Art.22Most of the theatres and cinemas are in or near Broadway, the longest street and the biggest shopping district in New York. 8Today New York City is informally called "The Big Apple". 9The origin of this name is unknown, but it is popular all over the world.
