1. Alexander Petrov is an experienced worker. He works at the laboratory of a Research Institute in Moscow. His group designs electrical equipment for fully automatic shops and plants. Still he wants to improve his technical knowledge. That’s why he became a student of the Moscow Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Automation.

2. Alexander Petrov is in his last year now. In autumn he will graduate from the Institute. He will become a specialist in the field of automation and cybernetics. He carries out a large number of experiments at the laboratory and gets numerous consultations from professors and teachers of the Correspondence Institute.

3. There is a wide system of correspondence courses in Russia. A large number of workers and employees combine work with study by correspondence at higher or specialized secondary schools.

4. There are Correspondence Institutes in many regional centres and other big cities and towns.

5. The examination session lasting for two weeks takes place twice a year. During this period students attend lectures on the main subjects, take their exams. They listen to lectures on the subjects of the next academic year. Annually a great number of students graduate from Correspondence Institutes and become highly - qualified specialists.

Задание I. Образуйте, где возможно, множественное число существительных; переведите на русский язык:

Задание II. Переведите на русский язык, обращая особое внимание на притяжательную форму существительных:

5. Nick’s upgraded personal computer of the latest model.

Задание III. Употребите прилагательное, данное в скобках, в нужной форме (сравнительной или превосходной степени); переведите на русский язык:

1. My fellow students’ lectures are (useful) than mine. 2. I think English is (easy) than French. 3. John Brown was the (bad) sportsman at the competition in skiing. 4. This is the (funny) joke I know. 5. East or west, home is (good).

Задание IV. а) Напишите словами следующие количественные числительные:

50, 78, 2, 511.038, 14, 4.920, 305, 106, 54, 18;

б) Переведите словосочетания на английский язык, употребляя порядковые числительные:

девятый день, пятый урок, сотый ученик, восьмая неделя, двенадцатый месяц, двадцать пятый журнал.

 

Задание VII. Прочтите и письменно переведите текст на русский язык:
