The aim of the course is to increase participants' knowledge and awareness of how technology can be used in English language teaching

Preparation

Participants are asked to complete a detailed pre course questionnaire about their background, experience and current teaching or teaching related position.

Objectives

This two week programme is aimed at non-native English adult educators, teacher trainers and educational inspectors. The aim of the course is to raise participants' awareness of the principles and practice of the use of technology in English language teaching. By the end of the course we aim to build participants confidence in their own technology skills and to increase their knowledge and awareness of how technology can be used in English language teaching. Above all, this is essentially a practical course designed to equip participants with ideas and materials which they can use in the classroom once they return to their respective countries.

Methodology

During the course, participants are exposed to a wide range of technology, given instruction on how to make the most of these tools and how they can assist a range of teaching styles and methodologies. This can include the following: word-processing tools, Internet and webquests, Web 2.0, Blogging, Social Networking, PowerPoint, Interactive Whiteboards (IWBs), Digital Images, Audio & Video Resources, Podcasting, Movie Making, Skype, Video Conferencing, Wikis, VLEs, ePortfolios and Blended Learning.

Participants are encouraged to share ideas with instructors, native teachers and fellow participants. In addition, we are happy to make available to all participants our comprehensive range of materials and resources. We can arrange cultural activities such as walking tours of the city and visits to various museums and historical building. Possible evening activities include cinema trips, tea parties and pub evenings, all available at extra cost. Weekend trips to other cities such as Stratford, Cambridge or Bath are also available at extra cost.

Follow-Up

Teachers who have taken this course in the past have left with a wealth of new ideas and activities to try out in their own classrooms. All teachers who take the course are encouraged to stay in touch with each other in order to share ideas and resources.
